Elisa Leonardelli

Language technology, digital humanities (WP3)

Dr. Elisa Leonardelli is a postdoc fellow in the Digital Humanities group at Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Italy. Digital Humanities is a discipline that applies natural language processing methods to investigate humanities and social sciences. For Odeuropa, she and her FBK colleagues will work on historical (textual) documents to recognise descriptions of smells from the past and reconstruct smells’ changes through centuries.

She is a biomedical engineer and holds a PhD in Cognitive Science. In her PhD thesis, she investigated multi-sensory perceptions, so she is really thrilled to be part of this project that aims to study odours and their evolution in history.
